Perhaps the oldest ‘Quit India’ activist alive, Dr G.G. Parikh, as chief guest at the RedInk Awards, will honour 31 award-winning journalists and deliver the keynote address. Dr Parikh, an eminent social reformer who set up the well-known Yusuf Mehrally Centre, will be felicitated at the event that falls just before his 100th birthday on 30 December.

Mumbai, Dec 02: Perhaps the oldest ‘Quit India’ activist alive, Dr G.G. Parikh, as chief guest at the RedInk Awards, will honour 31 award-winning journalists and deliver the keynote address. Dr Parikh, an eminent social reformer who set up the well-known Yusuf Mehrally Centre, will be felicitated at the event that falls just before his 100th birthday on 30 December.
Indira Jaising, the first woman senior counsel in the Supreme Court and became the country’s first woman Additional Solicitor General in 2009, is the Guest of Honour and will speak on the occasion.
The RedInk Awards grand finale is being held this year at the Royal Opera House on December 02 at 6.30 pm.
The Awards Night on Wednesday will also see an important media debate: ‘NewsClick and After Fresh challenges for news media’. Participants include eminent lawyer and senior counsel Aspi Chinoy, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, and senior journalist and author Jitendra Dixit. The panel discussion will be moderated by Naresh Fernandes, Editor of Scroll.in.
Earlier, it was announced the coveted RedInk Awards for Lifetime Achievement has been bestowed on senior journalist and author Neerja Chowdhury for her long and distinguished coverage of political events. The Journalist of the Year Award this year is being shared by Dhaniya Rajendran, Editor-in-chief of The News Minute, for her series on voter fraud, and independent journalist Sharad Vyas for his exposes on the Pegasus case.
The RedInk Awards for Excellence in Journalism mark their 12th edition of peer recognition for good journalism. The RedInk Awards were instituted a decade ago to recognize good investigative and feature writing and raise the bar of journalism in the country.
The title sponsor for this year's event is Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL), and associate sponsors include Aditya Birla Group, L&T Financial Services, Indiabulls Housing, Finolex Industries, Adfactors, Concept Communication, and Pernod Ricard.
